11. Health and Safety

- 1. Abstract Recruitment Limited believes that it is essential that all employees, workers and those who render services to the Company or at the Company’s premises are in full command of themselves and of all of their faculties throughout the working day.
- 2. Abstract Recruitment requires you to present yourself for work on each occasion required under your contract in complete command of all your faculties i.e. without any dependence on alcohol or any other drugs of a non-medicinal nature and to maintain that state until the completion of your working hours under your contract. If during the course of your working day you have to take medicinal drugs on a regular basis, this fact should be known to your Branch Manager confidentially.
- 3. In the event that you present yourself at work or during working hours you are in a condition where your Branch Manager believes you to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and you are not able to carry out your duties in a proper, fit and safe way you will not be allowed to commence work or continue work. Instead you will be suspended without pay and not allowed to return until such a time as you are in full control of your faculties.
- 4. In addition, such behaviour will be subject to the disciplinary procedure of Abstract Recruitment and after due investigation may result in dismissal as a result of gross misconduct.
- 5. Abstract Recruitment is obliged to investigate all the circumstances surrounding such behaviour prior to commencing the disciplinary procedure and this may, where necessary, include seeking medical advice as to your condition including requiring you to submit to a medical examination. Abstract Recruitment is obliged to investigate such matters in as much detail as possible and therefore expects you to comply with any requests that you submit to such examinations. You may appeal in accordance with the Company’s disciplinary procedure.
- 6. If the disciplinary procedure is evoked and you receive a disciplinary sanction short of dismissal or if you have a successful appeal Abstract Recruitment will recommend that you take advantage of counselling services to help control your problem and you will be required to act of any such recommendation. In the event that you need to be absent from work for a period of treatment for either alcohol or drug dependency a reasonable leave of absence will normally be granted to cover this on an unpaid basis.
- 7. If Abstract Recruitment suspects that you are in the possession of alcohol or drugs you will be required to consent to a search of your belongings. If you are found to be in possession of any alcohol or illegal substances, you will be suspended from your duties pending further investigation. This matter will be dealt with under the Company’s disciplinary procedure and after due investigation it may result in dismissal for gross misconduct.
- 8. If Abstract Recruitment believes you are dealing, buying, selling or receiving drugs or alcohol you will be suspended from your duties while an investigation is carried out. Where a criminal offence is suspected, the Company shall inform the police.
- 9. All employees and workers are required to inform Abstract Recruitment or any appropriate person if they suspect any fellow worker may be acting in breach of this policy.

We will still be finding you assignments. The money earned on your assignments will be transferred to the intermediary as part of their income. Your Employer will then pay you your wage. - Site Location: This will be confirmed to yourself by an abstracts member of staff, including what PPE you will need, if you don’t have PPE you need to advise abstract recruitment so they can arrange PPE for you, you must inform abstract you don’t have PPE before you accept an assignment not when onsite.
- Check in Procedure: When you arrive for work, you will need to go to the security desk, obtain your pass and make your way to the temporary staff locker room and leave your personal belongings and mobile phones locked away for the duration of your shift. You must clock in before your shift (Please do not clock in any earlier than 10 minutes before your shift start time) You must also clock out upon completion of your shift. You must also ensure that you attend the start of your shift brief with your shift manager. If you fail to clock in and out when you attend work, you will not automatically be paid.
- Attendance: It is your responsibility to ensure you tell Abstract Recruitment if you are unable to attend work. You are required to text/call a minimum of 2 hours BEFORE your shift start if you are not able to make it into work. If you fail to do this, it will be marked with an Unauthorised Absence. If you receive 3 unauthorised absences, then disciplinary action could be started against you. Please call/text the following numbers if you are unable to attend your shift. - DO NOT TELEPHONE THE CLIENT: As Abstract receive orders from their clients daily it is difficult to predict work volumes throughout the year. We require you to be available at all times to come in to work. You must notify Abstract a week in advance if you are not available for certain shift for the following week. Our Peak period is from September through to January so we ask for temporary staff to take a minimal of time off during these months. During the quiet times, we will always try and find alternative positions for you and we will always make sure any reduced shifts are distributed fairly.
- HOLIDAYS: ALL HOLIDAY MUST BE USED BY 31th DECEMBER OF THE CURRENT YEAR If you are wanting to book time off you MUST follow the process below and fill out a holiday form. Holiday forms must be submitted to Abstract Recruitment a minimum of 2 weeks’ prior to your holiday. 1 Days Holiday = Minimum of 1 working weeks notice 2 Days Holiday = Minimum of 1 working weeks notice 3 Days Holiday = Minimum of 1 working weeks notice 1 Weeks Holiday = Minimum of 1 working weeks notice 2 Weeks Holiday = Minimum of 2 working weeks notice 3+ Weeks Holiday = Minimum of 5 working weeks notice Anyone failing to follow this process could have holidays rejected. If a holiday request is rejected and you do not turn up to work, it will be classed as a strike against you. During the quiet times, we will always try and find alternative positions for you and we will always make sure any reduced shifts are distributed fairly. Anyone failing to follow this process could have holidays rejected. If a holiday request is rejected and you do not turn up to work, it will be classed as a strike against you.
- FIRE DRILL: It is vital that you follow all Health and Safety Regulations whilst you are on site. Any injury regardless of how small must be reported immediately to a Shift Manager, first aider and Abstract. Before you start you temporary assignment with Abstract you will be shown: 1. The position of the nearest fire alarm. 2. The position of your nearest fire extinguisher 3. The nearest fire exit. 4. Your assembly point. 5. Fire alarms are tested every Thursday during each shift.
- FIRE ALARM: 1.Immediately evacuate the building by the nearest fire exit in an orderly fashion. 2. Proceed to your assembly point. 3. Do not re-enter the building until authorised to do so. Pilferage Anyone found pilfering property from a client site will be instantly escorted off site and could be prosecuted. Before you start you temporary assignment with Abstract you will be shown: 1. The position of the nearest fire alarm. 2. The position of your nearest fire extinguisher 3. The nearest fire exit. 4. Your assembly point. 5. Fire alarms are tested every Thursday during each shift.
- CAR PARKING: There are free parking facilities on site. No responsibility will be accepted by Abstract or the client for any damage or loss of property.
